TBTC Victoria East’s partners take a Swing for Charity

Every February, the Greater Dandenong Council brings together corporate sponsors for an afternoon on the green to raise funds for local charities. Since 2009, an incredible $600,000 has been raised through business charity donations to provide financial support to 16 great causes.

This year was another success. Our partners at TBTC Melbourne South are long-term supporters and sponsors of this event and on the 20th of February, members from the team headed to the Kingston Heath Golf Club to raise money for a great cause.

Supporting the Cornerstone project

The Cornerstone Contact Centre aims to support people in need of a safe space. The hub can provide home-cooked meals, crisis assistance, pastoral support, and connection with others.

Currently, Cornerstone operates out of a small property which serves as storage for emergency relief items, an assembly point for food parcels and a place to host community support programs for homeless and displaced people. However, this location is not set up to provide the level of support Cornerstone is hoping to offer.

While they plan to relocate to a larger office space, there is still not enough storage to house supplies for meals or facilitate drop-offs. To fill this gap, the charity wants to construct a steel shed adjacent to the Cornerstone community hub. This will act as a multi-purpose space to house more supplies, hold events and expand the assembly of food parcels. Once this has been created, they can extend their operations from 3 to 6 days, which is expected to reach another 100 people with their efforts.

With construction expected to cost over $50,000, this is not something Cornerstone could finance on their own. That’s where Take a Swing for Charity comes in with business charity donations.

A supportive day on the green

Supporting the community is very important to us, as well as our partners at TBTC Melbourne South. As locals, we are all passionate about finding ways to help others and use our resources most ethically. That’s why our team makes an effort to attend the Take a Swing for Charity Golf Day every year.

Sales Managers George Petropoulos and Michael Garret, Technical Consultant Specialist Andrew Gardner, and Director of Operations Gareth Wyatt all attended in support of Cornerstone. The goal was to raise $50,000 that Cornerstone could use to construct their custom-built multi-purpose space.

Over the course of the afternoon, the team got in some great swings and had a blast. They also got to enjoy a delicious lunch and dinner and chat with other players/sponsors over drinks.

The event proved to be a great success, with over $50,00 raised, meaning Cornerstone will have the funds they need to extend their reach and support more people in the Greater Dandenong region.
